Located at February Plains just south of Basil Steers #1. Head south from Liena or Mole Creek towards the Arm Forest Reserve. From the Mersey Forest Road, take the Bare Hill Road to Borradaile Plains then head south to the Basil Steers car park. The first hut is a short walk south, and the second a little further on.
History
Following the damage sustained to Basil Steer’s number one hut, Basil built this hut, with the aid of his brother Tony Steers and their two sons, Phil and Donald. The hut is two kilometres south west of the first one and was completed in a short time in 1974.
The hut is of considerable size to accomodate his family and includes bunks, a table and larger living area.
Construction
This hut was built from split eucalypt slabs form the locale forest. The roofing iron came from the remains of his number-one hut. It includes a woodshed and a skin shed, discretely hidden away and used while snaring was legal up to 1984. There is also the mandatory dog kennel.
