Accommodation Paddock Hut

Known as Accommodation Hut or Accommodation Paddock Hut

Located at the Steppes Reserve. To find it, start on the highway directly across from the entrance to the Steppes Sculptures (which are well signposted). The hut is about 30 m north and in the opposite paddock about 150 m inside the fence. Climb the fence where the tree has fallen and follow an indistinct farm track The hut roof is visible from the road.

History

The hut was built and used by drovers, as accommodation while they brought sheep and cattle to the high country for the summer.

Construction

The hut is made of timber with a strong floor and corrugated iron roof (that needs some repair). The stand-out feature for the hut is its huge stone chimney, much like a bottle tree to look at.
