History
It is a small hut with basic amenities for the person staffing the tower, a short distance below it. It has views over Lake Dartmouth. A 1961 black-and-white photo shows the original hut near the tower. It burned down in the 2003 Alpine fires, and the new hut was ready in early 2005.
ExplorOz also lists “Ruin: Mt Benambra Fire Tower Quarters (1961-2003)” at -36.505217, 147.574617. That’s the old quarters site, right beside the tower, so the current hut is the 2005 rebuild a little way off.
Tower: Fire Lookouts Down Under lists a 33 m steel tower with a 10 m cabin, in the DEECA North East region. It says the cabin was replaced in 2014.
GPS Location of the Fire Tower is -36.505217, 147.574617 and the hut is about 250 metres away.
