Known as Connors Hut or Connors Plains Hut, sometimes as the Connors Forestry huts.
Located at Heyfield–Jamieson Road and No. 3 Road, Connors Plain.
History
A very useful reference for this hut or huts, is Sid Cowling’s memories of Connors Plain, 1957 and 1963:
In January 1957, the Forests Commission Victoria camp accommodated about 50 road construction personnel, alongside forestry staff.
Buildings included a large mess hall, staff quarters and numerous small Stanley huts. Cowling shared one measuring approximately 2.4 × 3 metres, with two beds and a basic wood stove. (Shown in the photograph here)
When he returned in 1963 to survey Alpine Ash regeneration, he stayed in the staff quarters, which he described as the only building remaining after the logging and road construction work had finished. Sid Cowling
Connors Plain subsequently housed the Heyfield Mobile Support Crew. Former members describe firefighting, seed collection and camp life during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
