Dogs Grave Hut ADA

Known as Dogs Grave Hut or ADA Hut - Deerhunters

Located north of Dargo on the Birregun Road. “Dogs Grave” free camp: UTM 55H 533740mE 5879114mN.

This hut replaced the old Dogs Grave SEC hut on the same site and about 30 metres from the very formal granite grave. It was written by stockman Jack Treasure in 1969, in memory of Meehan’s dog Boney who was an Australian cattle dog, buried here in 1863. The grave was the subject of an extended search and was eventually found surrounded by a small wooden fence and nameplate. A detailed treatise was written on the story and the Cobungra Stockmen by Flora Johns in 1977, and the poem is reproduced by her, and below.
