Cooks Hut is in the Iron Range National Park (Kutini-Payamu), and forms the centre of a popular camping area in far north Queensland.

Location: The nearest town is Lockart River community.

History: This area of Queensland was very significant during the second world war when thousands of US troops built a big base near Portland Roads and the famous Chilli Beach. At the time the local miners were forced our but Mr Gerard Cook returned in in 1945 to build this unique hut, from materials left over by the military.
