Mt Delegate (Delegate Hill) is at about 148.90°E, near the Bendoc depot in far East Gippsland on the NSW border at about 1308 m altitude. The reserve is a day-use area at the summit of Mount Delegate on Delegate Hill Track, Bendoc.
The Fire Tower lookout page has a photo captioned “The old hut in 2009,” but no build date, builder or history for it. It’s probably the accommodation hut for the lookout operators. firelookoutsdownunder
Lookout history: The lookout started as a wooden phone box with a sighting card on a stump and a few sheets of iron for shelter and rain collection, as described in a December 1951 memo. The Forest Commission then weighed options including a separate hut for accommodation alongside a new tower. firelookoutsdownunderfirelookoutsdownunder
Towers: The site had the phone box until 1953, then an 18 m wooden tower from 1953 to 1978. The wooden tower was condemned after wind damage in 1978, and the current steel tower dates from then. The tower is 62 m high with a 3 m x 3 m cabin at 40 m.
Approximate GPS position is -37.111835, 148.897580 for the towers behind.
